                                  planes took off without incident and proceeded 
                                  to Cape St. George, the established rendezvous 
                                  point. Planned rendezvous could not be affected 
                                  inasmuch as the SBDs left before arrival of 
                                  the fighters. However a running join-up was 
                                  made with the bombers in the St. Georges Channel, 
                                  with 12 fighters taking position as low cover 
                                  at 13,000’ - 13,500’ over the bombers 
                                  who were at 12,500', the 4th fighter division 
                                  acted as medium cover at 15,000’. 
                                .....The 
                                  course was up the Channel and cutting overland 
                                  at Kabanga to the target area. 
                                .....The 
                                  fighters orbited the target area from 13 - 15,000’ 
                                  while the bombers made their runs. Immediately 
                                  thereafter the fighters made their runs from 
                                  SE to NW retiring out to Blanche Bay between 
                                  Ralum and Raluana Point. 
                                .....All 
                                  fighter divisions rallied 5 miles east of Cape 
                                  Gazelle at 5,000', and from there proceeded 
                                  down the Channel around Cape St. George, and
