Arrived at Espiritu Santo aboard the U.S.S. Wright.
Joined MAG-11, FIRST MARINE AIRCRAFT WING, from MAG-24, 4th MBDAW, F.M.F., this date.

August 12

Disembarked at 0900 this date, began unloading ship.

August 13

Continued unloading our squadron gear from the U.S.S. Wright, completed the job of removing the gear from the ship to the docks at 1600.

August 14

Moved from our temporary quarters over to our assigned ones, for this base.

August 15

Began to square away our quarters and started to assigning the men to their duties.

August 16

Daily Routine.

August 17

Ten (10) F4U-l's in commission and thirty (30) pilots available. Twenty five (25) pilots flew on familiarization hops today. We Joined five (5) enlisted men from VMF-124 this date.

August 18

Three (3) sections flew familiarization hops today.
Six (6) pilots, Major Volcansek, Capt. W. D. Moore, Lt. Reid, Lt. Williams, Lt. Wilson, and Lt. Yeager, ferried six (6) F4U-1s to Guadalcanal. Joined 1st Lt. A.A. Case and Marine Gunner P. R. Hombre from VMF-121, MAG-14, 2nd MAW.

August 19

One (1) familiarization flight and two (2) test hops completed operations for today. Joined eight (8) enlisted men this date, transferred Major D. H. Sapp and P.M. Carnagey from United States Marine Corps Reserve to United States Marine Corps.

August 20

Five (5) pilots, Major Gordon, Lt. Craig, Lt. Hughes, Lt. Leach, and Lt. Pankhurst, ferried five (5) planes to Guadalcanal. Four (4) gunnery runs of four (4) planes each, one (1) test hop, and one (1) familiarization flight, two (2) tactics hops and one (1) eight (8) plane escort problem completed today's operations. Joined two (2) corpsmen from Hq. Sq. , MAG-11. Major Volcansek, Lt. Reid, Capt . W. D. Moore, Lt. Williams, Lt. Wilson, and Lt. Yeager returned from ferry hop to Guadalcanal. Transferred 1st Lt.'s F. V. Avey and Bruce Ffoulkes to VMF-213, also S. E. Hostel, PM1c and V.P. Lewis, PM1c to Hq. Sq. , MAG-11.

August 21

Five (5) tactics flights of four (4) planes each and one (1) tow hop completed today's operations,

August 22

Flying secured today. Transferred one (1) enlisted man to Hq. Sq., MAG-11.

August 23

Two (2) tactics hops of four (4) planes each, one (1) tow hop, one (1) gunnery hop of four (4) planes, two (2) search flights of two (2) planes each, Lt. Yeager became lost from his section, on a gunnery run, during a squall and because of insufficient gas he had to bail out.

August 24

Three (3) test hops, and one (1) strafing hop of four (4) planes, one (1) familiarization and four (4) tactics flights completed today's operations. 1st Lt. A.A. Case and Marine Gunner P. R. Hombre were Transferred to VMF-214 as of this date.

August 25

Four (4) tactics hops of four (4) planes each, one (1) fixed gunnery , one (1) towing and one (1) familiarization hop was carried out today and one (1) strafing hop of four (4) planes completed today's operations. Major Gordon's section sighted Lt. Stephen Yeager on the island of Aoba, the commanding officer was notified and the crash boat was sent out to pick him up. An F4U-1, piloted by Lt. Hobbs, crashed on take off, doing damage to three other planes that were on the line. The propeller flew off seriously injuring Corp. L. E. Cornelison who was working on one of the planes. Lt. Hobbs received only minor cuts and bruises. The plane Lt. Hobbs was in was damaged beyond repair.

August 26

One (1) tactics hop or four (4) planes and one (1) strafing hop of four (4) planes completed today's operations.

August 27

Today's operations consisted of, three (3) tactics hops, each of four (4) planes and two (2) familiarization flights.

August 28

Three (3) tactics hops of four (4) planes each, one (1) fixed gunnery and one (1) familiarization flight of two (2) planes completed today's operations.

August 29

Flying was secured for today.

August 30

Four (4) strafing runs of four (4) planes, four (4) fixed gunnery hops of four (4) planes each and one(1) test, hop completed operations for today.

August 31

Four (4) fixed gunnery runs, and four (4) tactics hops completed the schedule today. Flying for pilots of VMF-222 was secured today so that they could began to make their preparations to shove off for their next base.
