                      gunnery , one (1) towing and one (1) familiarization hop 
                      was carried out today and one (1) strafing hop of four (4) 
                      planes completed today's operations. Major Gordon's section 
                      sighted Lt. Stephen Yeager on the island of Aoba, the commanding 
                      officer was notified and the crash boat was sent out to 
                      pick him up. An F4U-1, piloted by Lt. Hobbs, crashed on 
                      take off, doing damage to three other planes that were on 
                      the line. The propeller flew off seriously injuring Corp. 
                      L. E. Cornelison who was working on one of the planes. Lt. 
                      Hobbs received only minor cuts and bruises. The plane Lt. 
                      Hobbs was in was damaged beyond repair.  |
