.....All planes took off without incident and proceeded on course via the east coast of New Ireland and across the narrow neck of land at Dolomakas Bay down to a point just east of Tawui Point where they rendezvoused at 17,000' over the SBD's at 1010.

.....The SBD's went in at 1030 and were completed by 1034, While the bombs from the last SBD's were dropping our planes started their runs using a high speed approach from around 14,000', going into the final dive at 10,000', and releasing from 2,500'-3,500'.

.....The target areas were strafed in the dives and upon retirement.

.....One plane, flying at 100', strafed the eastern section of Rabaul town and the flying boat anchored in Simpson Harbor; all results were unobserved.

.....Meager inaccurate auto AA was received from known positions just east of Rabaul town, as well as meager inaccurate 40 MM from Matupi Island. No damage was sustained by any of our aircraft.

....All planes retired out Matupi Harbor and effected a rendezvous with the SBD's at 5,000' 5 miles east of Cape Gazelle, The bomber and fighter flight leaders agreed on returning to base independently due to the heavy cloud formations in St. Georges Channel.

..Enroute one plane developed engine trouble , and was forced to return o base with an escort. Both planes jettisoned their bombs over the Maritsoan Pltn., New Ireland.

.....There were two bombs which hung up - cause unknown.
