the week a total of 48 sorties were flown
over various targets In the Gazelle Peninsula,
New Britain. A total of 24 tons of bombs were
dropped and 63,600 rounds of .50 caliber ammunition
was expended with the following observed results:
-
damaged
silver single-engined plane, square wing
tips, at the SE end Vunakanau R/W.
-
destroyed
a large wooden bldg. S of Vunakanau.
-
damaged
3 - 150' x 25' bldgs. E of Kokopo.
-
damaged
group of bldgs. Diddimans Corner.
-
destroyed
undetermined number and damaged balance
of concentration of 30 huts in NNE corner
Matupi Island
-
burned
by strafing 2 huts Massikanaduku Island.
-
burned
by strafing several huts Giretar Point.
-
dropped
by strafing a running Jap on Tunnel Hill
Road, believed killed.
-
strafed
8 white shirted people, most likely Japs,
at Raluana Point - several believed killed.
-
smoked
by strafing 3 large trucks, 1 empty dump
truck, and 1 medium truck.
-
set
afire by strafing 1 loaded medium sized
truck,
-
strafed
and definitely holed 5 large loaded trucks,
8 large trucks, 19 medium trucks, 2 small
trucks, and 3 autos.

strafed
and holed 40' barge underway In Simpson
Harbor.

addition to the above definitely observed
results. It can safely be said that many
additional buildings and huts have been
damaged or destroyed as a result of considerable
strafing and many bomb hits in areas of
clusters and concentrations.
