two fighters and PBY took off. PBY unsuccessfully tried to intercept by use of ASV.
1330,
two fighters off and separated on two separate problems on their own selected course and were vectored together by Jack. First one was within about one mile and the other within about 400 yards— both passing astern of target on converging courses.
2000,
one fighter cruised shoreline at 8,000 feet until 2140 tracking for AA 268s.
2330,
PBY took off. Two fighters off at 2310. PBY approached field over island of Nihau with lights off and at an unknown altitude except that he was above 4,000 feet. Interception unsuccessful mostly due to interference of Nihau on the radar screen.
Secured flying at 0100.


2 June. 1942
O930,
PBY and two fighters off. Interception using PBY's ASV not successful.
1330,

Interception between two fighters not successful. They were brought close in (25 miles) to the island which was inside accurate control of Jack. Control was shifted to 268 radar which was not using a plot.

1230,
One section fighters returned to Ewa for repairs to plane.
2400,
PBY and two fighters off. Interception successful with PBY running with lights off at a known altitude. Best aid to intercep-tion was additional bearings given by 268.

3 June. 1942

0930,

PBY and two fighters off. Fighters worked unsuccessful interception (close in) between themselves. PBY worked close in 268 in calibration.

1020,

Air raid alarm and remaining fighters were off in less than 4 minutes and all planes assembled at 15,000 feet over the field. Secured from drill at 1110. Two fighters returned from Ewa during the drill.

Four fighters and PBY conducted another unsatisfactory interception using PBY's ASV. It was decided that the ASV could not be used for this work.

All fighters took off and returned to Ewa. STAD completed. Personnel and equipment returned by transport planes.
