* Capt. Kenneth Walsh was the first F4U "Ace" while flying with VMF-124 in Guadalcanal.
Walsh recieved the Medal of Honor for shooting down twenty Japanese aircraft in aerial combat.
He volunteered to return to combat and shot down one of the last enemy planes for the Marine Corps (his 21st).
